To create your own media room/home theatre always try and select a room that has the least amount of daylight – like a basement or extra bedroom. Consider repainting the room with a neutral color (i.e. grays, matte silver) to further improve how colors will appear on screen. Even your carpet plays an important role in your maximizing your total viewing experience. The thicker and softer your carpet, the better your sound quality in the room.
Now all light isn't evil. In fact, the right type of light used properly can actually improve your eye's ability to process the picture playing on screen and help reduce eyestrain. Try installing a light fixture or placing a lamp behind the TV or monitor, but don't use anything brighter than a 10 or 15-watt incandescent bulb.
